This role is perfect for an experienced data professional who wants to be part of an energetic, extremely fast-growing company. We are looking for someone who already understands how data can be used to reduce uncertainty in decision making and therefore understands the value of data.   

 

In this role, you will be expected to have a combination of technical data skills with strong relationship building and business analysis abilities. You will be part of the Insights, Analytics, and Data Science team and will work to allow Ozow to make optimal decisions to accelerate our growth. As part of the team, you will help build the tools, processes, and governance infrastructure that will allow us to drive even smarter decision-making across Ozow. You will be primarily tasked with using product thinking to help build a technology stack and environment with the aim of empowering the business with advanced analytics, predictive analytics, and artificial Intelligence. The role reports to the Head of Insights, Analytics, and Data Science, and together you will champion a culture of an obsession for insights that have no limitations – from our customers to product development, to marketing, to operations, and to sales. You will work with the overall Ozow product function to ensure the data products fit within the overall product roadmap for Ozow.  

 

 

You are an ideal candidate if you have:

  • Honours or Master’s degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics. 
  • 8-10 years of data and analytics experience. 
  • Expertise and experience with data products in a financial and regulated environment, including techniques for processing and expanding data.  
  • A strong understanding of multiple techniques for data processing and insights. 
  • A strong advocate of agile practises and software development lifecycles with the ability to educate the wider business teams on the development process. 
  • Very strong background in data processing, ideally having built or driving products whose approach to data processing was pivotal to their success.

 

 

Your roles and responsibilities:

You will be a specialist in the organisation, driving the data strategy for Ozow. You will help guide the company and multiple development teams to use our data, and data we can gather through partnerships, to create a truly sentient company.  You will gather and prioritise product, customer, and business requirements, set objectives and key results and define the data product roadmaps.

 

Specific responsibilities are: 

  • Create a data strategy to collate and leverage all existing data within the company, from cleaning through to deriving insights. 
  • Partner with other external data sources to augment our internal data. 
  • Develop data products to support all areas of the business. 
  • Seek out and test opportunities to use our data for other products and markets. 
  • Define and manage the product objectives, key results and roadmaps for data at Ozow that yield business value - from more rigorous data processing to deriving insights. 
  • Work directly alongside your Development teams and partner Product teams, driving the product backlog and prioritisation, understanding the technology capability, business drivers and user needs simultaneously. 
  • Work closely with other Product members to drive data capabilities throughout all product aspects, using your understanding of data to help others who might not have this domain expertise. 
  • Communicate and clarify your strategic goals and achievements with management and across all business functions, then reflect any changes, learnings and feedback for continuous improvement of the product and the company. 
  • Develop artifacts to drive all your work forward, including requirements documents, use cases, personas, white papers, demos and presentations, and distribute these effectively throughout the organisation to ship value for the company and bring kudos to your teams.

  • Technical acumen and the ability to learn new paradigms quickly and look to continuously improve and find better ways of doing things. 
  • Analytical thinking capability; logical, systematic, strategic, and pragmatic. 
  • Strong attention to detail; both quantitative and qualitative; can process large amounts of data from disparate sources. 
  • Developing excellent working relationships with Engineering teams to deliver world-class software products in an efficient manner. 
  • Personal stature, gravitas, a relationship builder; influencer; excellent communication, and interpersonal skills across a number of stakeholder groups. 
  • Excellent critical judgment; able to make good decisions, be trusted, respected, and dependable, be proactive and responsive, ask the right questions, raise flags at the right time, able to prioritise and plan workloads for the team. 
  • Able to learn new concepts and business issues quickly. 
  • Like to get things done; create ideas, think outside the box 
  • Problem-solver and solution finder, proactive, use initiative to develop and improve. 
  • Structured in an unstructured environment; highly organised, able to multi-task, and project manage. Can correctly prioritise multiple issues, opportunities and creates structure, systems, and processes from scratch.
