The role of Head of Insights, Analytics, and Data Science at Ozow is for you if you are a respected thought leader in this field that has the ability to empower Ozow to make optimal decisions to accelerate our growth.


You will be the founding member of a Data Science and Business Analytics team and you will build a team, tools, processes, and governance infrastructure that will allow us to drive even smarter decision-making capabilities across Ozow. You will be primarily tasked with building a technology stack and environment with the aim of empowering the business with Big Data-driven by Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and predictive analytics built on AWS and other leading best-practice software and applications.

The role reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer, and together you will champion a culture of an obsession for insights that have no limitations – from our customers to product development to marketing to operations to sales.


You are an ideal candidate if you have:

  • A Masters or Ph.D. (preferred) in Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Physics, or Finance.
  • A proven track record of 8+ years of experience in building, developing, and managing enterprise Business Intelligence platforms, database technologies, and visualization tools.
  • Experience leading technical teams to deliver large-scale analytics and business intelligence projects which require extensive collaboration across multiple teams.
  • Expertise in BI reporting and data platforms including Tableau, Redshift, DynamoDB, Hadoop, PowerBI, SQL Server.
  • Expert knowledge and execution capabilities of common data structures, languages, and tools (e.g. SQL, Python, R, Storm, Kafka).
  • Experience in scaling and enhancing data capabilities, workflows, and reporting.
  • Expert level execution capabilities for modern recommender systems and algorithms, A/B testing, data modelling, and experimentation.
  • Experience and good knowledge of cloud platforms, especially in AWS with RedShift, Kinesis, SageMaker, and others.


Your roles and responsibilities:

  • Responsible for creating the vision and strategy for the Data Science, Insights, & Analytics team and building a team to execute on this vision.
  • Accountable for implementing the Data Science, Insights, & Analytics roadmap for Ozow, by defining what success looks like through insights and trends into both customer-centric and business-oriented initiatives.
  • Accountable for institutionalising a data-infused decision-making framework and hypothesis-driven experimentation mindset across Ozow by standardising data collection, data automation, data management, and data use.
  • Collaborating with Chief Technology Officer and Chief Executive Officer to ensure our systems architecture and overall tech stack to support a world-class Data Science, Insights, and Analytics function.
  • Build partnerships with key stakeholders in Technology, Marketing, Operations, Sales, Account Management, Human Resources, Legal and Finance to identify analytical needs and gaps, challenge the status quo, improve data literacy, execute ad hoc requests, and develop self-service dashboard and visualization tools.
